PARTIMAP, K-Monitor's free, open-source, map-based questionnaire platform, has been expanded with new updates. The platform allows you to create surveys, where, in addition to simple questions, you can also ask respondents for feedback on locations and dilemmas displayed on a map. You can use it to thoroughly explore a local issue, such as planning a new bike path or discussing a traffic reduction concept.
After defining a good target group, you can easily collect numerous relevant map markings and responses in just a few days for a cause that is important to you - at no cost whatsoever.
If you have already used PARTIMAP to create questionnaires and gather community opinions, we have good news for you: we have seen all your feedback, personal experiences and suggestions for improvement, and during spring we began a new round of development, completing the third wave of PARTIMAP updates this summer.
In this blog post, we summarize the new features added to the system and highlight the key things to try if you are planning your next PARTIMAP project.
👉 If you haven't heard of PARTIMAP yet, we recommend trying out the demo interface, where you can see examples of the main features as a respondent.
👇 If you're already familiar with the interface, check out some new features that make it easier to create effective surveys!
Questionnaire updates
🔀 Changing the order of answer options within a question
For multiple-choice questions (e.g., radio buttons, checkboxes), it is now possible to easily change the order of answer options by dragging them.

📤 Moving questions between worksheets
A feature has been added that allows you to move an already existing question from one worksheet to another. A new button has appeared next to the trash can icon in the question editing interface, which allows you to send the question to a subsequent or previous worksheet.

⌨️ Adding new options with Enter
You can now quickly add new options to multiple-choice or checkbox questions using the Enter key—no need to click the “New Option” button anymore.
✏️ Easier editing of answer options
When editing answer options, if you edit the name of the first option (“Option #1”), the placeholder text is automatically deleted, allowing you to start typing faster.
➗ Distributing units
For “Distribute X units” questions, you can now see how many units are left to distribute, making it easier to fill them out.

🔀 Development of conditional questions
We have implemented the ability to also use OR connections between one or more questions and answer options when specifying conditions, and you can now also assign conditions to conditional questions. This allows you to create more complex logical conditions. Furthermore, when specifying conditions, we display the full text of the question to make it clearer exactly which question the setting refers to.
Updates to map worksheets
🗺️ Expansion of .KML parameters
When exporting to .KML, we have made it possible to retroactively include all answers for map markers if the admin has allowed this.
🔒 Fixed map zoom
We have introduced the maxBounds function, which allows you to set a specific map action area. Within this area, the respondent can still move and zoom in on the map, but they cannot go beyond the specified boundaries. This can help filter out irrelevant responses.

General updates
🧠 Quiz mode
Quiz mode is a new feature for PARTIMAP questionnaires that allows you to turn your questionnaire into an interactive quiz. Once enabled, respondents can only move between worksheets if the administrator gives them permission to do so, preventing them from filling out all the questions on all pages in advance. You can enable Quiz mode at the bottom of the project editing interface. The mode only works for new respondents, so it is important to activate it before sharing the questionnaire. Once activated, you can decide whether your respondents can move on.
🔑 Transferring and copying projects
We created a feature that allows you to transfer your questionnaire to another user. All you need is the other user's registered email address.

🌐 Embedding / integration
We have created an embedding interface where admin users can specify a desired height and width values for their questionnaire, after which the interface generates an HTML code that they can use to embed questionnaires into the structure of their websites.

📊 Improving reports
We have expanded reports with the following statistical data, which we have displayed on separate worksheets:
- For text answers we do not generate statistics
- For numerical and slider answers: we calculate averages
- For multiple-choice, checkbox, list, and star-rating questions: we display the number of responses, percentages and averages.
- For weighted distribution questions we calculate averages.
🌍 Easier management of multi-language projects
PARTIMAP has been expanded with a new feature that makes it easier to create multi-language questionnaires. Until now, if you wanted to create a project in another language, you had to re-enter every question and setting separately. With this new feature, you can simply copy the existing questionnaire and change the language in the copy, so you don't have to rebuild everything from scratch.
After copying the project, the questions and settings will appear in the new language version, so you only need to translate the content-related text and don't have to create new questions. This comes especially useful if you are targeting a multilingual audience, for example in districts with many foreign residents, where it is important to have an English version available.

📝 Text editor alignment options
The text editor interface has been expanded with alignment options: buttons for left, center, and right alignment have been added to the toolbar.

🔗 Facebook sharing
We have checked and improved the Facebook sharing function, so you can now share your surveys on social media more easily.
🔍 Search instead of filter
We have replaced the word “Filter” with “Search” on the admin interface.
And that's not the end of the improvements!
We are also working on other features, including:
- New home page
- Reorganizing the help page
- New question types and map modules,
And many more!
If you haven’t tried our new additions yet, now is the time to enter PARTIMAP and discover them!
We hope you like the new developments! If you’re planning a project involving public engagement, problem mapping, or similar activities, we encourage you to use PARTIMAP, which remains free to use. You can create your own account here.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or specific needs related to the platform, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
